Every year before the holidays, I highlight ten or more of my favorite makers and some of their pieces on Instagram. This year, I am also interviewing the makers themselves to learn about and connect with them on a more personal level.
Colorful, Customizable Bracelets to Satisfy Any Style
When starting this project, I immediately knew that Diane Agujo of Weave Tassy Co. was the first artisan I wanted to speak with. Diane designs and creates beautifully hand woven and well-priced bracelets for men, women, and children. Her bracelets and wraps are a colorful boho style and can be worn as an every day accessory.Offering custom colors and designs means she can make a bracelet to satisfy just about any taste.
A few months ago, I placed an order for myself and found it difficult to narrow my selections to just three! From the lovely packaging to the fabulous quality of the bracelets themselves, Weave Tassy Co. definitely exceeded my expectations! I would highly recommend ordering a few of Diane's pieces for holiday gifts this year, and you might even consider having a custom set made for your family. Interview with Diane Agujo of Weave Tassy Co
Hello! I’m Diane Agujo - a 21 year-old creative entrepreneur from the Philippines. Ever since I graduated from college (last December), I’ve dedicated all my time and effort into building my handcraft business.
My brand is called Weave Tassy Co and I make handwoven accessories, and am currently concentrating on bracelets. I'll soon be expanding to other kinds of accessories such as bags, shoes, and clothing.
How did you get started? What inspired you to start making?
I’ve always loved arts and crafts ever since I was young. I was heavily influenced and inspired by my mom, who’s also a crafter. I remember watching her make jewelry and do embroidery. The entrepreneurial part was also an influence from my parents. They’ve tried all sorts of business from service to retail. This eventually led me to pursue business management in college and with both the passion for crafting and entrepreneurship, I decided to make this into my full-time career.
What tools and materials do you use?
I mainly use crochet thread and different cords for my designs. Based also from my brand name, I like to incorporate a different type of weave or braid into my designs which is why I use thread as my primary material.
What do you enjoy most about creating your own products?
I enjoy having the freedom to design my own products since it is my own brand. I also love collaborating with my customers and coming up with new color combinations to match their style.
What makes Weave Tassy Co unique?
I think what makes my brand unique is that it tries to adapt its style to that of the customer’s without actually losing its own branding. Meaning, my products are flexible. I can customise the colors and sizes and even some of the materials that I use so that it shows the personality of both the brand and the customer. My products are a collaboration between me and my customers which makes the experience more personal.
How have you grown your business from an idea to where it is now?
There has been a lot of trial and error in starting this business. I think that most general explanation of the process that I went through in growing this business is that it’s a combination of researching and creating. Researching all the necessary things for an online business such as SEO, social media marketing, accounting, etc. and creating a product that customers would want to buy. These two seem to be common sense but there really is no other way to grow a business but to learn all about the details and continuously build upon your knowledge both on the entrepreneurial side and the creative side. These two have to go hand in hand.
Where is your business headed?
My short term goal is to expand my product line and further cement my branding as well as identify my target market. This would eventually include utilizing different selling platforms and building my own website. My long term goal on the other hand is a little bit more vague. I’d want my brand to not just be about the product but more so about the people behind the product. I’d want to have the opportunity to provide jobs and an avenue for creativity to people. Crafting has become my stress reliever since I was in high school and it has helped me get through tough times. I’d like other people to experience that as well. I don’t have concrete plans as of yet but I envision myself teaching my craft to other people and hopefully this sparks a new way of viewing crafting and the entire handmade industry as well.
Who are your customers?
My customers are from different countries and are of different ages. So far, I’ve sold my items to 11 countries in total.
What are your most popular products?
My most popular products are my wrap bracelets and my mommy and me sets.
How can people connect with you?
I sell my bracelets on Etsy, and I also use Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest where my customers can see updates, sales, and my daily crafting stories.
